June 03 – Review by Officer Nice – DEEM INDEX – MASS//MINUS (Private Pressing / Hard Life Promotion)

The Netherlands had always been something special in Metal. This is the only country I know where this kind of music is accepted by the community, it actually has always been accepted there. As long as I remember there has always been incredible good music clubs, good organized festivals and the community always supported the organizations, even financial. We also need to say that Holland had always contained good bands, in the old days and nowadays. Some bands broke through and became mainstream, for a part I suppose it is the result of hard work and all the support the bands received.

In my hand I have an EP from a band called Deem Index. They’re heading from Arnhem and deliver us a very varied silver disc. I hear some good musicians at work here. If you’re into razor sharp riffs, different tempi and rich arrangements this band might be something for you. Deem Index mixes genres and hits hard. Vocal wise you need to do it with the type of modern harsh sounding timbre, not exactly a singing talent but that’s obvious not what it is all about.
